Integration
WhatsApp Business Platform integration: templates, opt-in and connected workflows
The WhatsApp Business Platform lets a business number answer customers through software instead of the phone app. This page describes what can be automated, how it connects, and the rules on templates, opt-in and charges.
- Platform type
- Messaging channel
- Connects via
- WhatsApp Cloud API, webhooks, n8n node
- Main requirement
- Approved templates and customer opt-in
What can be automated with WhatsApp Business Platform
Each row is a trigger and what follows it. Your project uses the rows that fit your process.
| When this happens | What the automation does |
|---|---|
| A customer messages the business number | An AI assistant answers and hands over to a shared inbox when needed |
| A click-to-WhatsApp ad lead arrives | A CRM contact and a deal are created |
| An order ships or an appointment is near | An approved template sends the confirmation, shipping update or reminder |
| A customer sends a document or photo | It is filed and read by AI |
| A chat goes unanswered for a set interval | A supervisor is alerted |
| A web form captures opt-in | Template messages are enabled for that customer |
How WhatsApp Business Platform connects
The WhatsApp Cloud API on the Graph API, with webhooks.
- A native n8n node (WhatsApp Business Cloud)
- A verified Make app
- A Zapier app with a send action and no triggers
What to know before starting with WhatsApp Business Platform
- A Meta business portfolio is required. Unverified accounts run under a low messaging limit until verified.
- Only approved templates can start a conversation. Free-form replies are allowed inside the customer service window, which resets with each customer message. Opt-in is required before sending templates.
- Meta charges per delivered template message by category. Replies inside the window are not charged under the current model.
- Meta's platform terms bar AI providers from using the platform where AI is the primary functionality offered. A business's own customer service assistant is the intended use, and this boundary is re-read before each build.
No partner status with WhatsApp Business Platform or its vendor is claimed. Points marked as confirmed during scoping are checked against your own account before a build is quoted.
What we need for a WhatsApp Business Platform project
We need from you
- Admin access to the Meta business portfolio
- A named owner who approves templates and changes
- A number to register and test contacts
How a project would be approached
- Review the WhatsApp Business Platform account, its plan and what access it allows
- Build and test the connection on a test account or test records first
- Staff approve the first live runs before the rest go live

Questions we get asked
What can be automated in WhatsApp?
Answers to inbound messages, lead creation from ads, order and appointment notifications through approved templates, and alerts when a chat goes unanswered.
What does WhatsApp require before an integration goes live?
A number registered on the Business Platform, a Meta business portfolio, and approved templates for any message you start. Verification raises the sending limit.
Which plan, approval or fee applies on the WhatsApp side?
Meta charges per delivered template message by category, and bills it to you or through your provider. Those charges are separate from our build fee.
